Letter from the Elders and Staff

At the elders and staff retreat last weekend (January 20-21), we discussed having a focus for the current year and after some discussion decided that an appropriate focus would be a renewal to our vision of "Knowing Christ and Making Him Known." One way that we can make that renewal very concrete and specific is through a renewed commitment to daily prayer and Bible study. For all or practically all of the elders and staff that is not a new commitment in our lives, but we are together renewing that commitment to ourselves, to one another, and to you to be daily in God's word, daily in prayer in the remainder of this year. Also, as part of our prayer ministry, we are dividing up the names of all the members of our congregation among ourselves, and each person will be praying for about 30 of our members as the year progresses.

We hope that this will be an encouragement to you to join us, even if initially your commitment may only be for five or ten minutes a day. And we would love to hear from you through a note, a conversation, or the yellow cards that you too are committing to a daily devotional time with God. How encouraging it would be if we knew that 100-200 or more of our members were daily seeking to draw nearer to God through prayer and Bible study. We plan to make available in the near future some guides for daily scripture study, if you think that might be a helpful tool for you. But let us emphasize that in all of this we should have one central aim: to know Christ better, to strengthen our relationship with our loving heavenly Father
