About The Ministry

The goal of our Missions Ministry is to duplicate somewhere else what we are doing locally. To provide hope to others.

Churches of Christ are unique in the autonomy of each individual congregation. This presents us with the challenge and the opportunity to develop our own mission strategies and goals. Our congregation has chosen to fully support missionary families as the Lord blesses us with the funding. Because of His blessings, these families are our ambassadors of hope:

  • Puerto Ordaz Church, Venezuela
  • David and Ana Guaicara in Barcelona Venezuela since 1992

    David Guiacara became a Christian at South Baton Rouge over 15 years ago. He and his wife (Ana) were an active part of our Spanish Ministry. Both of them are from Barcelona, Venezuela. After graduating from LSU they returned home and began to worship with the Church of Christ that had previously been established in that area. In 1992 David began to work full time in the ministry with the local congregation. We feel it has been a tremendous blessing to our congregation to be involved with the mission efforts in this region of Venezuela for many years.
  • Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela

    Denis and Robbie Ruiz returned to Venezuela in February 2003 after 15 years in Baton Rouge. Denis is originally from Caracas, Venezuela and worked in the ministry in Caracas from 1979 to 1987. Robbie grew up in the mission field as a "missionary kid" in Vincenza, Italy. Denis and Robbie will be working with the congregation in Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela which is a sister city to Barcelona, Venezuela.

Mission Fund

The South Baton Rouge Church of Christ so strongly believes in missions that it has been a pioneer in endowing a "Mission Fund". This provides security to our missionaries to know that almost one-third of their salaries are funded by this strategy and is not subject to a fluctuation in congregational contributions. An Investment Committee that is made up of members of the congregation oversees the investment of the funds.

Baton Rouge "International" Efforts

Our goal is to incorporate an organized outreach to our international students as an important part of our missions ministry. Our congregation is tremendously blessed to be able to "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19) by reaching out to internationals who God has brought to us ( Acts 17:26,27).
